The studios and investors see these games as a "free service," and people usually equate free with crap (but I thought the best things in life were supposed to be free...). The studios may not be granted enough startup equity or time to launch a quality free game because people should not complain about what they are getting Runescape Gold for free, right?
The money the companies make on a daily and monthly basis can greatly fluctuate and if they aren’t making enough money, the quality of new content can and probably will be poor.
You just know that the heir archly of payment in these games will go to investors first, company staff second, server maintenance third, and finally content and refinement - in that order. It’s probably the same order for Sub games but at least the income is a bit more dependable?
Again though, I don’t see these issues occurring in a game put out by EA and Bioware. Past RMT games may have sucked, but what companies were putting them out?
The most notable is probably Sony Online Entertainment with The Agency, but I have two things to say to that: 1) The game isn’t out yet so we can’t pass any final judgements on its quality and 2) I found the quality of any traditional SOE MMO I have ever played to suck anyway (Matrix Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, Pirates of the Burning Sea, and yes, even EQ1 - I hated that game with a passion).
